CNA Let Me Tell You A Story S2: History Of Singapore's Vibrant Streets

Documentary

46min | Singapore, Malaysia | 2025

Before MRTs and air-conditioned buses, Singapore was a different world back in the 1950s. People had less. They stayed home more. And when they did go out, just hopping on a trishaw or catching a bus could be a whole experience. Life then was harder, messier, but wildly unforgettable. Food arrived in different forms, from pushcarts to bicycle vendors, served with none of today’s convenience. Seniors recall a time when travelling around Singapore was a different world. Even a simple trip out could turn into a wild adventure.

These are the stories of the last surviving historians among us. Hear the vivid memories of a time gone by, told by a generation who grew up in a completely different Singapore nearly 100 years ago. Season 2 of "Let Me Tell You A Story" aired Aug. 9, 2025 on Channel News Asia.
